Who was your most influential teacher and why?
My most influential teacher was Mr. Frankel. I admired Mr. Frankel for how he genuinely cared about his students beyond academics and athletics. He was always available to chat, whether about math, tennis, or personal matters. It was truly special as he always listened and made every student feel seen, heard, and valued. Mr. Frankel truly cared about his students’ well-being, way more than their grade or performance. His positivity, encouragement, and constant support made such a huge impact on me over the years.
What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class was Honors Biology. The class challenged me and was interesting. I learned new ways to study and improve my skills. The content intrigued me and motivated me to study and do my best. Ms. Willing pushed me to do my best!
What was your most memorable experience at Shipley?
My most memorable experience at Shipley was my senior, second-singles tennis match against Friends Central in the semi-finals. I spent nearly three hours on the court battling through three sets, with our teams tied 2-2. The team relied on me to win, and I felt the pressure. However, I handled the pressure and was extremely proud of my performance.
What does Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
To me, this statement means taking risks to benefit your community. Shipley encourages students to leave their comfort zone. Shipley gives students the opportunity to face challenges while helping to improve their community. Taking the challenge of starting new clubs, helping out others, speaking up, and all of the above. Shipley wants students to take risks to improve their community.
How has Shipley encouraged you to take risks?
Shipley gave endless opportunities with clubs, athletics, and academics. Shipley pushed students to succeed, but always had their back if they failed. Students were expected to try new things, and resources were unlimited.
Please write a short reflection on your time at Shipley and what it meant to you.
My time at Shipley began with difficulty. I found it hard to fit in during 8th grade. Now, looking back, I am proud to say it all worked out. Shipley gave me the confidence to be myself and find my people beyond the school. Though it is bittersweet to leave, I am thankful for the many experiences Shipley gave me. I grew to be confident, strong, and hardworking, thanks to Shipley!
