Who was your most influential teacher and why?
Mr. Maurer. Junior year was the first time I actually enjoyed an English class. He made the discussions about the books really enjoyable, and he was able to engage our entire class.
What was your favorite class and why?
Modern Drama. I was friends with all my classmates, and had really good discussions in class. I was able to have fun every day.
What was your most memorable experience at Shipley?
The junior/senior football games.
What does Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
It means doing the right thing takes bravery along with dignity and humility – that is what actually defines your character. Anyone can act; it is how you carry yourself through it that matters.
How has Shipley encouraged you to take risks?
Shipley encouraged me to take risks by creating an environment where it was okay to be wrong. The culture pushed me to put forward my own ideas and defend them, which over time makes you more willing to step outside your comfort zone and grow from it.
Please write a short reflection on your time at Shipley and what it meant to you.
When I came to Shipley sophomore year, I was scared, but I felt welcomed from day one, and a lot of that was because of the soccer team. The culture they created made it easy to find my footing in a new place. From there, Shipley became somewhere I could grow, take risks, and build relationships that actually meant something. I am leaving more prepared and more sure of who I am than when I arrived, and I am grateful for that.
