Who was your most influential teacher and why?
Mr. Simpson was my most influential teacher. When I came to Shipley as a Sophomore, I took his Junior/Senior elective history course, but he always treated me the same as the other students, which allowed me to push myself and grow immensely. Following this, I had him again Junior year, and he was the club advisor for me in Mock Trial, Debate, and Model UN.
What was your favorite class and why?
My favorite class at Shipley was English 11 Honors with Mr. Maurer. The curriculum included some of my favorite books I've read at Shipley, and a really fun group of people that made class discussions more interesting.
What was your most memorable experience at Shipley?
My most memorable experience at Shipley was being in our production of Rent. I had so much fun doing theater, and it taught me a lot about having confidence to take risks and have fun.
What does Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing mean to you?
Courage for the Deed; Grace for the Doing means to grant yourself and others the support and encouragement to do something new or difficult and give people the grace in response to their actions. It is a way of building a community that supports others in trying new things, however successful it may end up.
How has Shipley encouraged you to take risks?
Shipley gave me a variety of opportunities to push myself and try something new, and people are always very supportive of someone trying something new.

Shipley gave me the space to find myself, and gave me the confidence that I have talents that I can carry with me for the rest of my life.
